Sodium gluconate is used as a chelating agent, as cleaning agent and also in textile dyeing, metal
surface water treatment and printing.
Sodium gluconate is a white granular crystalline solid, which is easily soluble in water. It is the sodium salt of gluconic acid, which is produced by the fermentation of glucose. It is non-corrosive, non-toxic, biodegradable and renewable. It is resistant to oxidation and reduction even at high temperatures. Sodium gluconate forms stable chelate with calcium, iron, copper, aluminum and other heavy metals. Sodium gluconate is a chelating agent superior to EDTA, NTA and phosphonates. Its main characteristic is its excellent chelating power, especially in alkaline and concentrated alkaline solutions.

Uses for Sodium Gluconate:
Application of sodium gluconate in construction industry
The sodium gluconate industrial grade can be reduced by adding a water reducing agent to a water to cement ratio (W/C). By adding sodium gluconate, the following effects can be obtained: 1. Improve workability When the water to cement ratio (W/C) is constant, the addition of sodium gluconate can improve workability. At this time, sodium gluconate functions as a plasticizer.
When the amount of sodium gluconate is less than 0.1%, the degree of improvement in workability is proportional to the amount added. 2. Increase the strength When the cement content remains unchanged, the water content in the concrete can be reduced (ie, the W/C is reduced). When the amount of sodium gluconate added is 0.1%, the amount of water added can be reduced by 10%. 3. Reducing the cement content The water and cement content are reduced in the same proportion, and the W/C ratio remains unchanged. At this time, sodium gluconate is used as a cement reducing agent. In general, the following two aspects are important for the performance of concrete: shrinkage and heat generation.
Sodium gluconate as a retarder.
Sodium gluconate can significantly retard the initial and final setting time of the concrete. When the dosage is 0.15% or less, the logarithm of the initial solidification time is proportional to the amount of addition, that is, the compounding amount is doubled, and the time of initial solidification is delayed by ten times, which enables the working time to be very high. It takes a few hours to extend to a few days without compromising strength. This is an important advantage, especially on hot days and when it takes longer to place.
